Caring for your skin is neither the job of dermatologist nor your favorite beautician. Although they can help you manage the acne problem, it is your skin after all and thereby, your own responsibility. It takes personal willingness, cautiousness and determination to achieve that perfect skin which would certainly make you an instant star wherever you go!

The best way to care for your skin is through proactive acne treatment. This acne clearing method would surely help you out during those difficult stages of adolescence and early adulthood. Teenagers and young adults are certainly the people who are most prone to having acne breakouts and little do they know that the most effective acne clearing method does not lay on cosmetic and personal care products they can buy over the counter but it ultimately depends on them and how they are when it comes to taking care of their skin.

Proactive acne treatment does not refer to any one product but it means taking the necessary steps in preventing an acne breakout even before they begin. Proactive acne treatment is about prevention and being one step ahead of any possible acne breakout. With this, we mean a good diet, a good sleep and proper hygiene. Not hard to follow, isn’t it?

A good diet would compose of a healthy balance of carbohydrates, protein, vitamins and minerals. People usually skip out the vegetables not knowing the benefits they can get from it. The vitamins and minerals from this green stuff flush out the toxins from our body and results to an impeccable glow in our skin! The same is true with water which cleanses our body, keeping us healthy and fit. A good eight glasses of water a day and a healthy and balanced meal would surely keep your acne level at a minimum.

People tend to be very busy and stressed. Sleep is the only way to cope with this so be sure to not deprive yourself of eight hours of sleep. Sleep can balance the hormonal imbalance that could have been brought about by the stressful day and could prevent a looming acne breakout.

Lastly, with all the pollution around us, we need to use face washes that are specially formulated to fight oil and dirt in our pores. The lather would do its job and you need not scrub your face heavily. Gentle strokes would do just fine. Washing your face in the morning and evening would definitely protect you from those nasty and unwanted bumps on your face!

Remember that acne prevention is constant work and not a one-time visit to the dermatologist. You need not spend a fortune just to clear your skin because there is proactive acne treatment that would not leave you a beggar at the end of the day. All it takes is the effort to maintain a good, healthy lifestyle and to have the positive outlook on life! There is still time to enjoy your beautiful skin!

It can be self-administered and is affordable while still being effective. Most of them also do not require a doctor’s prescription and can be purchased over the counter, with the exception of Accutane which is a very strong medication and is only intended for severely infected acne patients.

Proactive acne treatments usually use benoxyl peroxide as its main ingredient. This chemical is perceived as the best weapon against the bacteria that is believed to cause acne. Retin-a is also known to effectively combat not only acne but other skin problems like scars, wrinkles, stretch marks, skin discoloration, etc.

There are also organic proactive acne treatments like essential oils. This type is applied topically and treats mild to moderate breakouts. Best known essential oils include tea tree oil, bergamot oil, clove oil, lavender oil, rosewood oil, among others.

If you are a first time user of a proactive acne treatment, it is recommended to start with the essential oils as these are the mildest kind. If you think you need to step it up, then you could try chemical medications. If they still don’t work, there could be something in your diet or lifestyle which causes your breakouts which needs to be corrected. It also takes some considerable amount of observation to find out what really is causing the problem.

Acne treatment requires one to really get serious in treating their problem. It is also important to be careful in choosing the most suiting option for problematic skin. Do not just believe anything you read in advertisements or watch in TV because you might regret it in the end. Proactive acne treatment also calls that the person is fully aware and responsible for their actions.

Acne, a Common Skin Disorder

Posted on September 14th, 2007 in Acne Information by Acne Treatments

Acne is one of the most common skin disorder suffered by young or adolescent ones. The main cause of this is the hormonal imbalance, lifestyle, exposure to dirt and pollutants

Acne Vulgaris is a condition where there is chronic eruption of comedones, papules, pustules, and cysts occurring primarily in adolescence. The process includes retention of sebum in sebaceous glands due to increased production. This then plugs the ducts. When these enlarge, they are called comedones. Whiteheads are closed comedones while blackheads are due to the exposure of the open gland orifices thus exposing it and from chemical changes occur.

Cysts are formed from very large comedones. The bacterium, Propionibacterium acnes on the other hand breaks down the retained sebum, causing a spontaneous chemical change which forms fatty acids. This causes local inflammation and induces a foreign body reaction. Symptoms are aggravated by application of greasy or oily cosmetics and by repetitive pricking or squeezing of lesions. Healing of pustules, a circumscribed elevation of the skin and contain pus, may be protracted, and may leave pits or scars.

The main cause is unknown, but it has been said to have a genetic predisposition. It comes on about the time of puberty and typically resolves within five to eight years, but may persist into the middle and late 20s or beyond. It may occur in association with many diseases. Acne typically gets worse during times of emotional stress.

There is the appearance of lesions ranging from blackheads, whiteheads, papules, pustules, cysts. These may vary in number, distribution, and severity on the face, upper back, and chest. Spontaneous remission occurs but may take years. Severe cases of acne may leave some scarring.

Acne rosacea is a reddish facial eruption, which usually occurs in the middle-aged and elderly. The main cause is unknown and occurs more commonly in persons with migraine headaches. It responds to antibiotic treatment. There is burning and flushing of the face, with patchy or diffuse rosy tint, papules, and sometimes pustules or excessive sebum production. The cheeks, nose, and chin show a faint to bright inflammatory blush. Papules, pustules, telangiectases are visible patches of dilated skin vessels. This will also cause some degree of oiliness. The eyelids may become inflamed including the cornea. Rhinophyma or marked hyperplasia of the nose may also occur.

Manifestations of the acne vary from one person to another. The cause of the acne is an important factor in determining treatment modalities that would proactively treat the acne.
