The Truth Behind Acne Treatment

A big horrible bump on the face clearly washes away your great assets. No matter how great your bone structure is or how beautiful your eyes are, people will only seem to put their attention on your acne! So the solution really here is to clear your skin from these ugly acne breakouts so that your best assets would finally shine out.

When plagued with acne, first two things would come to mind: treatment and control. Popping those zits, whether prematurely or not, would only make matter worse for your skin. Fortunately, there is such thing as proactive acne treatment that is known to fight acne long term. What does proactive acne treatment entail and what exactly should you do?

First and foremost, proactive acne treatment needs your cooperation. Do not leave acne control to your dermatologist’s prerogative because you have to be deeply involved in clearing up your skin.

Oil is the number one culprit to acne breakouts. Second is dirt. So to take away oil and dirt, you would need to change that lifestyle. Stay away from the oil-rich foods such as hamburgers and junk food and open yourself up to healthier alternatives such as yogurt and salads. Opting for water rather than cola would also do the trick. If you are so used to staying up to the wee hours of the morning, try dozing off earlier at night because a healthy sleep would also lead to a better skin.

When it comes to cleaning your face, facial washes are highly recommended. Use the lather to massage your skin and do not ever scrub you face when drying up. Just gently pat dry your skin, treating it as delicately as possible. Rubbing it with something that has a coarse texture like a bath towel may exacerbate your acne situation by irritating the pores.

A healthy lifestyle coupled with the right acne medications would greatly help you in managing you acne. Benoxyl peroxide is a typical acne treatment which directly fights off the bacteria that causes acne. Accutane is another acne medication but is prescribed to the severely infected patients only. Apart from these chemical-based treatments, there are also herbal alternatives to curing acne. The most popular would be the tea tree oil which with its pleasant smell would help subside the swelling and gradually reduce the size of the zit.

Acne treatment and control calls for us to be a little more cautious on our health and well-being. If we are healthy both in the inside and out, it would clearly translate to the impeccable glow on our skin and a bright disposition in life and towards others.

Proactiv: Solution or Confusion?

The Proactiv Solution line promises to clear your skin of acne within 3 to 6 weeks in 3 easy steps. Step 1 instructs users to use the renewing cleanser. The renewing cleanser cleanses the skin and contains grains to remove dead skin cells. Step 2 is the toning stage. The revitalizing toner is meant to get rid of more dead skin cells, excess oils and unclog the pores. Step 3 is the moisturizing stage. The repairing lotion is oil free; it promises to soothe the skin and prevent future breakouts. The renewing cleanser and repairing lotion both list Benzoyl Peroxide as their active ingredient.

What is Benzoyl Peroxide?
Benzoyl Peroxide is an oxidizing material or it readily gives off oxygen. When applied to the skin, it releases oxygen or it “oxygenates” the skin. This prevents bacteria from infecting or accumulating on the skin. Benzoyl Peroxide also softens and dissolves or peels off the topmost layer of the skin.

The antibacterial and exfoliating effects of Benzoyl Peroxide make it an ideal anti-acne agent. Today, Benzoyl Peroxide is one of the most commonly used active ingredients in leading anti-acne products.

Is the Benzoyl Peroxide of Proactiv Solution different from other acne treatments?
If we are to believe the claims of the infomercials, the Benzoyl Peroxide “molecules” of Proactiv are “smaller” and hence penetrate the skin more effectively.

If we are to believe dermatologists and chemists; no, it contains the same Benzoyl Peroxide found in other commercially available acne treatments.

Does Proactiv work because of the 3 steps?
It should. There is nothing really special about the 3 steps of Proactiv. It follows the golden rule of skin care: cleanse, tone, and moisturize. In effect, following the 3 steps will not harm the user. But neither does it bring to the table an innovative way of treating acne.

Proactiv is not cheap; the Solution line costs anywhere from $30 to $65. It is available online or through TV shopping only.

So does Proactive really work? It has worked for some. I have a cousin who uses it religiously and so far his face is acne free and is as soft as a baby’s. Then there are those of the disenfranchised. Some say it did nothing for their acne, others claim it made their acne worse.

The bottom line is Proactiv will work for some and not for others. Each person’s skin chemistry is different; therefore each will react to commercially prepared products differently.

Certified as the Best Cure for Acne

A lot of products on the market claim and promise to unburden people of their constant and persistent acne problems. Sadly though, most ultimately fail. Some are too harsh that people end up with uglier skin than before. Others just seem to just not work at all. So is there still hope for the people who simply want to see the beauty of their skin and finally experience freedom from their troublesome acne?

The answer is a resounding yes!

We all know the advantages of living in this present era of modern science and technology. More and more inventions, innovations, processes and methods are conceptualized and introduced to our societies. Beauty and health is one of the sectors that are benefiting most from these technological advances. Treating acne has been made easier and more effective now with the introduction of proactive acne treatment.

How does proactive acne treatment differ from the conventional ways of curing acne? Well, for starters, proactive acne treatment need not cost you a fortune. It can be self-administered and is affordable while still being effective. Most of them also do not require a doctor’s prescription and can be purchased over the counter, with the exception of Accutane which is a very strong medication and is only intended for severely infected acne patients.

Proactive acne treatments usually use benoxyl peroxide as its main ingredient. This chemical is perceived as the best weapon against the bacteria that is believed to cause acne. Retin-a is also known to effectively combat not only acne but other skin problems like scars, wrinkles, stretch marks, skin discoloration, etc.

There are also organic proactive acne treatments like essential oils. This type is applied topically and treats mild to moderate breakouts. Best known essential oils include tea tree oil, bergamot oil, clove oil, lavender oil, rosewood oil, among others.

If you are a first time user of a proactive acne treatment, it is recommended to start with the essential oils as these are the mildest kind. If you think you need to step it up, then you could try chemical medications. If they still don’t work, there could be something in your diet or lifestyle which causes your breakouts which needs to be corrected. It also takes some considerable amount of observation to find out what really is causing the problem.

Acne treatment requires one to really get serious in treating their problem. It is also important to be careful in choosing the most suiting option for problematic skin. Do not just believe anything you read in advertisements or watch in TV because you might regret it in the end. Proactive acne treatment also calls that the person is fully aware and responsible for their actions.
